Because The Wednesday Word Family Time
page contains the Gospel it is aimed at everyone.
However, the weekly letter and the Sixty Seconds
Section aim to engage in particular with the approximately
80% of school parents who do appear to be currently
interested in existing adult or child catechesis,
or in attending Mass. We are aware that many families
with children in Catholic schools will only have
one Catholic parent. We aim therefore aim to promote
Catholic truth sensitively but in an inspiring way,
and to inform parents about the relevance of the
faith for themselves and their children.
The wording is primarily aimed at the parents
and carers, rather than at the children,
because it is the adult's relationship with God
that will have the most significant impact on the
future faith-life of the family. This in turn inevitably
contributes to the overall well-being of the family.
The Wednesday Word aims to help schools
and the Church to enhance links with parents and
carers. This we believe will greatly enrich and
help to achieve the aims of the home, school and
However, feedback suggests that The Wednesday
Word has also made a profound impact on school
families who already go to church. The Wednesday
Word is an excellent way for practising Catholic
families to prepare for the proclamation of the
Gospel at the coming Sunday Mass. It also helps
them to transmit the faith to their children and
so further develop the domestic church.
